Welcome to Wythall Young Farmers
First Stock Judging Practise of the Year!
Last night Wythall YFC held their first stock judging practise of the year in preparation for the upcoming Stockman of the Year competition. Michael Jennings, Wythall's president, and Nicky Jennings very kindly put together a pwer point presentatition going over all the main categories; dairy, finished beef, breeding ewe, finished ewe, and finished pig. After going over the do's and don'ts of stock judging, terminology and what to look for in each category, we headed outside to look at what we had learned in real life. Peter Charles had kindly allowed us to walk up his dry dairy cow line, so Michael was able to point out some good and bad points of each cow.
This was a very beneficial evening as we have many new comers to stock judging this year. Other practical stock judging practises will be held in the run up to the pre-rally show day, with a session also included for horse stock judging. A massive thank you to Michael and Nicky for running a very successful night, and to Peter for allowing us to take a look at his dairy cows.
